ABOUT US
Turn into The Square at Charminster, near Dorchester and take a step back in time to an era when pubs were real pubs –
Welcome to THE THREE COMPASSES – a Family owned and run FREEHOUSE
Although it stands now as a large impressive brick building, following a rebuild in 1916, The Three Compasses Inn actually dates way back to 1747 when Mary Ebber was the first Licensee! The current Landlord and Landlady, Rob and Tina Dixon, pride themselves in keeping ‘The Compasses’ a normal pub with just a few essential modern tweaks such as WiFi, TV and a Card-Reading Till
Having been in the DIXON family for the past 30 years and previously run by Rob’s parents, Terry and Margaret, The Three Compasses oozes the atmosphere of a bygone age of traditional pub life. The skittle alley still remains intact in all it’s vintage glory, there are several Dart Boards and Cribbage and the recent addition of a cosy adjoining Tea Room, full of beautiful English bone china, complete the vintage charm that is “THE THREE COMPASSES”! For outside space to enjoy a beer or a large G&T, we have a Quaint Courtyard Garden.
The Compasses has a long reputation for being the home of ‘Live Music’ in the local area – especially on a Sunday Night for a wide range of bands and for Jazz on the First and Third Wednesdays of the month. We are now extending this with more music and more events so please watch our ‘Events Page’ for what’s happening.
DOGS
Well-behaved Dogs are always very welcome here in The Three Compasses and doggie biscuits are available at the bar for a small donation to our local dog charity.
FOOD
The Three Compasses is not a ‘Gourmet’ Restaurant but rest assured you can always obtain an excellent Steak Burger and Chips or an amazing Cheese Toastie etc if you are hungry! Currently this is available Monday to Thursday 12.30 noon – 2.30pm and Friday 5 pm – 7 pm but we hope to extend our menu and kitchen hours as soon as we are able.
A Beer and Burger take-away is also available!
ACCOMMODATION
Our accommodation is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment but will be available soon.
